(Valencia, CA) – Just four days after passing the first stretch goal in its crowdfunding campaign, Axanar Productions has confirmed that it will receive additional funding from a source very close to home. The backing donation, provided by PROPWORX – an auction house specializing in the sale of film and TV props, costumes and set pieces – will contribute a share of the proceeds from its upcoming Star Trek memorabilia, costume and props auction to be held Sunday, August 9th as part of the official Star Trek Convention at the Rio Suites Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
“We’ll be taking 10% of the auction fees generated by the event and put it right into the production budget for AXANAR,” explains Alec Peters, CEO of PROPWORX as well as Executive Producer of AXANAR and the head of Axanar Productions. “While our current crowdfunding campaign is going great (over $350,000 as of Tuesday, August 4th), I would really like to see us as close to a half million dollars by the end of the month. To do that, it’s going to take some creative thinking.”
“Our total budget for this project is in the neighborhood of $1.3 to $1.4 million. And although that’s only 1-2% the budget of a typical science fiction film of this caliber, it’s still a lot of money to raise from fans.” Peters also explained that having $500,000 – $600,000 in available funds would allow the production’s director, cast and crew to take advantage of some economies of scale and work more efficiently. “We would then work on finishing as much of the first half of AXANAR as we could and show that to fans to keep the excitement and enthusiasm up for another round of crowdfunding.”
Selling Star Trek’s Past to Fund Star Trek’s Future
The auction, set for 11am on August 9th, is planned to be a combined live/online event. Items up for bidding will be on display at the convention from August 6th through the day of the auction. A majority of the props and costumes in the auction are expected to sell for $100 – $300, but some items will go for less while models and miniatures will, for the most part, go for more. Production artwork and design sketches of sets, props, etc. are predicted to sell for $50 – $100 each.
PROPWORX is auctioning off over 160 items which include items from classic films like Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek: Generations as well as all of the beloved TV shows including a copy of the original pilot episode that started it all: “The Cage” – originally produced by Gene Roddenberry back in the early 1960’s.

Bids can be made in person at the convention or online by registering at liveauctioneers.com. Participating in a Propworx online auction is easy and the system is built to ensure that winning bidders don’t spend more than they have to in order to win an auction. Here’s how it’s done:
1. In order to bid, you have to be registered with liveauctioneers.com. To do that, you must create an account. This is easy to do (you can either set your own username and password or you can use Facebook or LinkedIn login services).
2. Make sure your account information is complete (including your address and a mobile phone number). You must also accept the site’s terms and conditions and acknowledge that you are over 18 years of age.
3. Take a look at all of the items in the latest Propworx auction – if you see something you like, you can now bid on it, just click on the “BID NOW” button and place your bid. The auction does not have to be going on in order for you to bid.
4. When the auction takes place, you will receive notifications via text as to how your bids are doing. You can “go live” to the auction by visiting the site as the auction is happening and participate in the action.
5. If you placed the winning bid, you will be notified as to the final amount of that bid, how to settle (pay) for the item and to work out shipment and delivery details.
“We’re very pleased with the online bidding system at liveauctioneers.com,” said Peters. “Fans can place a bid on an item they want weeks before an event and feel confident knowing that their bid and contact information is safe and secure – and that they won’t have to pay more than they need to in order to win the auction.”
The online service hosts hundreds of auctions each month and claims over four million registered users.
