(Valencia, CA) – Axanar Productions – a non-profit film production company located in Valencia, California, has launched its campaign to help cover the operating costs of its soundstage facility for 2017. If successful, the company will make the soundstage and production offices available at a low- to no-cost to small independent producers, fan film makers and students interested in producing sci-fi, horror and fantasy projects.
The crowdfunding campaign is part of a larger effort to generate revenue for the non-profit company’s operations this year. “What we raise through this Indiegogo campaign will only be used to cover the hard costs of our facility here on Industry Boulevard,” explained Axanar Production’s Alec Peters. “Over 10,000 fans came together to help us locate here, improve the space and build our sets. Now we’re working hard to make sure that investment of time, effort and dollars go to good use.”
DONOR SUPPORT – A MATTER OF SCALE
“We have thousands of donors who have supported us over the past two years and I’m hopeful many of them will show their support for us again this year – even it’s just $10 or $20,” said Peters. “With an initial goal fo $60,000, we just need 15% of our backers to give us $20 each and we’ve made it.”
But for those fans willing to show a little more support than that, Peters and company have lined up numerous perks and rewards at a variety of levels. Fans can receive exclusive Industry Studios merchandise for donations at lower levels. For a bit more, those interested in breaking into the business on their own can pitch their idea to Peters and Robert Meyer Burnett, a frequent collaborate and producer/director of FREE ENTERPRISE and THE HILLS RUN RED.
Even “cushy” industry executive positions – which include an office with your name on the door of your very own office (albeit just for a day) and an Industry Studios business card – is available for a price. And at $5,000, it’s a price that’s significantly lower than what is typically required of “new money” interested in playing in Hollywood.
“We put that last level in for fun,” explained Peters. “But you never know …”
PART OF A LARGER MISSION
The crowdfunding campaign for Industry Studios is just the first step in a longer and larger process to turn Axanar Productions into an on-going business dedicated to the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres of digital media and filmmaking. The company plans on producing its own films and digital content as well as collaborating with independent and fan producers who have stories of their own to tell.
The non-profit film production company is currently in production on its first, big multi-media production, PROJECT:AXANAR – a Star Trek fan fiction project and is planned to include two short films (which will comply with the Star Trek Guidelines for Fan Films) as well as illustrative, audio and interactive content. The company also has several other fan film-related projects of its own in development (some of which may be identified publicly as early as May of 2017).
In the promotional video found on the Indiegogo page for Industry Studios campaign, however, it is the projects Axanar Productions is helping to co-produce that take center stage. PERSONAL SPACE, an original web series set aboard a deep-space ship is currently in pre-production of its second season and has already moved its sets to Industry Studios in preparation of principal photography. CHOLOS VERSUS VAMPIRES is a low-budget, independent horror film also in pre-production but with plans to shoot at Industry Studios before the end of the year.
While the success of the crowdfunding campaign is of vital importance to the future of Industry Studios, it is not the soundstage’s only means of generating revenue to cover its expenses. Axanar Productions is also currently in talks with other commercial projects and schools concerning facilities availability and costs.
